letter to the Minister

with 3 comments

Just sent off a letter to The Hon Kate Ellis MP, Minister for Youth, about whether the proposed student services fee will have a mechanism to prevent the administration from muffling students’ voices by withholding funding, as was threatened at Murdoch last week.

What do you guys think?

  1. It’s a fairly ham-fisted approach to solving the mess left by VSU, but unfortunately, there are far more fundamental problems than VSU in terms of poor student engagement at Australian universities.

More than money, we need social attitudes to change, uni has become less involving and more commercialised. Kids go their looking for a job, not an education. It’s sad and will ultimately ruin everything for everyone.

  2. They should be withholding funding. There is such a quick turnover with the guilds that one administration has no idea of what happened in the last administration. Have just heard of a guild demanding a swimming pool. Had to point out that it was the guild themselves that put the kybosh on a pool only 2 years ago. they had no idea, and with short terms they never will have. The administration should spend the money, as giving it to the guild, it will totally be wasted. Just had the guild wanting to get into housing again, totally unaware that the guild was a total disaster when they tried it last. The guilds are good for whingeing. yes whingeing can be good, and they can point out issues that need improving, but when it comes to doing anything, they are useless. With a 1 year turnaround they can’t be anything else. The elected officials are also always complete wankers, and with such a short turnover, the agenda is always about being a wanker. there’s no time to do anything useful.
